According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On January 29th 2023, at 7:37 PM, Officer Cobb was dispatched to Walmart at 815 Shugart Road. The Walmart loss prevention officer called, stating that he had watched a female stuffing items into a bag and then going into the bathroom with the merchandise. When officers arrived, they observed the female shoplifter running around the loss prevention associate, attempting to flee the store. Officer Morang ran after her and was able to grab her from behind by her t-shirt. Officers announced themselves as police officers and told her to stop. The female continued to try and pull away and yelled to let her go. She hadn’t done anything. She also threw the bag that she was carrying down to the ground. Officer Morang again told her he was a police officer, but the female continued to resist and tried to push Officer Cobb’s hands off of her. The female, later identified as Carolyn Annette Goins, 55, of Chattanooga, TN, was eventually taken into custody. Officers then located her son Travis Baker, who was with her in the store. Officers located merchandise concealed on his person as well. The Walmart associates provided officers with a copy of a trespass order where Carolyn was trespassed from all Walmarts after she was caught shoplifting at a Walmart in Chattanooga, TN. Both Carolyn and Travis were booked into the Whitfield County Jail.
