Dalton man found with meth while violating family violence order and shoplifting from Walmart

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On January 29th, 2023, Officer Ellenburg was dispatched to 815 Shugart Road Walmart in response to a shoplifting in progress. Officer Ellenburg made contact with the loss prevention associate in the office. The associate advised that he had observed a black male, later identified as Julian Hosea Moore, 30, of Dalton, wearing grey pants, a white shirt with a black jacket, a grey hat, and sunglasses pick up an axe and attempt to conceal the item. When he noticed the loss prevention associate watching him, he quickly put the item back. The loss prevention associate showed the officer live video footage of Julian. The video showed Julian picking up items and carrying them around the store. He would then get by himself in an aisle, in an effort to hide his actions, remove the items from their original packaging and conceal them on his person. Once officers saw Julian conceal the items on his person, they determined that the crime of shoplifting had been committed, and Officer Bethune and Officer Ellenburg made contact with him. Officer located several stolen items concealed on him, including an axe that was in his waistband. During the search of Julian, officers located a meth pipe and a small ziplock bag that contained meth. Julian was found to have a protective order against a female that he was with inside the store. The total dollar amount of merchandise shoplifted by Julian was determined to be $270.56. Julian was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, possession of meth, possession, and use of drug-related objects, and violation of a family violence order.
