Michigan man arrested for driving reckless at speeds over 100 mph with unrestrained kids on I-75

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On July 5th, 2023, at approximately 12:51 PM, while traveling north on I-75 near mile marker 327, Trooper Shackleford observed a gray 2022 Toyota Highlander traveling at an extremely high rate of speed at speeds well over 100 mph and weaving in and out of medium to heavy traffic. Trooper Shackleford initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Marc Lashawn Draper, 34, of Jackson, Michigan. Trooper Shackleford reported, “While speaking to Mr. Draper, he advised that there was a large black truck also on the interstate, and he wanted to get in front of it. While speaking to Mr. Draper, [I] noticed not only was there a small child out of her car seat, but there were an additional three small children completely unrestrained. The three-year-old was in the middle seat of the middle row sitting in a car seat with no restraint or harness holding her in. The nine-year-old was seated in the rear row of seats on the passenger side completely unrestrained, along with two ten-year-olds seated in the rear row of seats completely unrestrained. Due to Mr. Draper’s speed and driving behavior not only endangering the lives of other motorists around him but four innocent children, Mr. Draper was placed under arrest for reckless driving.” Draper was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with speeding, reckless driving, and seatbelt violation x4.
