Man caught in Floyd County child sex sting sentenced to 30 years after pleading guilty

On Thursday, William David Curry, 30, of Armcuhee, entered an open guilty plea to charges of obscene internet contact with a child, child molestation, computer child pornography, possession of THC oil, sexual exploitation of children and bestiality. According to police reports and court records, He told a person who he believed to be a 14-year-old girl in which he was chatting with online that he wanted to be her substitute teacher, and that he wanted to teach her things. After exchanging several messages on the Whisper app, Curry began sending naked photos and pornography and asking the girl he was preparing to molest what kind of things she was into sexually. According to records, He sent a video of himself masturbating to a video of a child being sexually abused, then also sent a video of a dog being abused sexually. Police had already been to his home after getting a tip from the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children about his activity on the SnapChat app in December 2021. Curry said that his phone had been hacked but shortly after began chatting online with the undercover police officer posing as the 14-year-old girl. Floyd County Superior Court Judge John Niedrach sentenced Curry to a total of 30 years to serve 12 years in prison. Once released, Curry will be subject to sex offender restrictions.
