LaFayette man arrested after 100 mph chase from Walker County ends in Gordon County

According to a Walker County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On July 1st, 2023, at 12:56 AM, Deputy Ferguson was patrolling when he observed a 2011 Nissan Titan truck fail to stop at the stop at Highway 151 at Highway 136. The Nissan then made a left turn going northbound and began to ride on the rumble strips and failed to maintain his lane of travel, which led the deputy to believe the driver of the vehicle was possibly intoxicated. Deputy Ferguson attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Chad Aaron Cline, 43, of LaFayette, accelerated fleeing. Sgt. Simpson advised to continue the pursuit. Cline continued north and then made a right turn heading eastbound on Highway 136. Cline failed to maintain his lane of travel and was driving in the opposite lane of travel at times. The pursuit continued eastbound towards Gordon County, where speeds were well over 100 mph. The pursuit went into Gordon County, where Cline went down several roads before stopping in a driveway. Deputy Ferguson took Cline at gunpoint and began giving loud verbal commands for him to place his hands outside the window. Gordon County Deputy Carnes then arrived on the scene and assisted with taking Cline into custody. Cline was found to have a suspended license, and the registration on the vehicle also returned with no valid insurance coverage and suspended registration. Cline was transported to the Walker County Jail and charged with felony fleeing, driving while suspended, driving without insurance, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and stop sign violation.
