Felon found with fentanyl and a loaded handgun during probation check at hotel in Gordon County

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On January 18th at 3:49 PM, Sgt. Powell responded to the Express Inn at 689 Highway 225 along with other deputies, DCFS, and a Probation Officer. DCFS advised that they had an open case on a six-month-old that was staying in a room with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend, Norman Tayqon Gibbs-Briscoe, 34, of Calhoun. Deputies made contact with Gibbs-Briscoe, who had an active 4th amendment waiver as a condition of his probation. Deputies gained consent to search the room while DCFS spoke with the mother. Marijuana was located inside the room. According to the report, “While deputies were searching the room Gibbs-Briscoe slumped over as if he had passed out. EMS was called and medically cleared Mr. Gibbs-Briscoe. Mr. Gibbs-Briscoe stated the white Chevrolet truck parked in front of the room was his, and he did not mind if deputies searched the truck. Inside the truck, deputies located three separate clear plastic baggies of marijuana, a clear plastic baggie containing fentanyl, and a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun.” Gibbs-Briscoe was placed under arrest and transported to the Gordon County Jail, where he was charged with felon in possession of a firearm, among other felony charges. DCFS advised that they would be placing the child with a family member.
