Dalton woman arrested for DUI after driving all over the roadway in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On December 10th, 2022, at 3:0 AM, Officer Black was patrolling on College Drive when when he observed a silver Dodge passenger car driving all over the roadway failing to maintain lane. Officer Black initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at 881 Holiday INN Drive and made contact with the driver, Melissa Marie Munoz, 31, of Dalton. Officer Black reported, “[I] could detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. [I] also noticed that Melissa’s eyes were extremely red and glassy. [I] explained to Melissa why she had been stopped. When Melissa responded [I] noticed that her speech was slurred. Melissa responded by stating she was just trying to get to her hotel. [I] then asked Melissa how much she had been drinking. Melissa answered that she had drank a little bit. Melissa also attempted to give me her credit card while producing her license.” Melissa stepped out of vehicle and was unsteady on foot having extreme trouble maintaining her balance. During standardized field sobriety tests, Melissa showed severals signs of impairment and showed BAC of . 181 on a PBT. Melissa was then placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), and agreed to the state test. Melissa was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BAC of .204 on the state test. Melissa was charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane.
