Dalton woman arrested for DUI after being stopped for signal violation

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On June 18th, 2023, at 3:03 AM, Officer Marcus was stationary at the 1st Baptist Church Parking lot on the side closest to Thornton Ave near the intersection with Waugh Street. The officer stopped a passenger car for signal violation on Cappes Street near Waugh St and made contact with the driver, Samantha Stephanie Martinez, 20, Dalton. Officer Marcus reported, “[I] could detect the odor of alcohol coming from the car. [I] asked Samantha to exit the vehicle since there were other passengers. [I] could still smell the odor of alcohol coming from Samantha. [I] asked Samantha if she had been drinking. She stated that she had “Like a drink or so”. She stated that she consumed the alcohol approximately 20 minutes before my stop time. She stated that the drink was a long island iced tea. During field sobriety tests, Samantha showed several signs of impairment and tested positive for alcohol on PBT. Samantha was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Samantha also had multiple underage passengers that were both intoxicated and admitted to consuming a bunch of alcohol. Camila Galvan stated that she provided the alcohol from her home and distributed it to her friends. Another minor stated that she was 16 and admitted to consuming alcohol. Camila was cited for furnishing to minors and underage consumption. She was then released. The 16-year-old was cited with underage consumption and released to her father. Samantha was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BAC of .085. Samantha was charged with underage DUI, underage alcohol consumption, and signal violation.
