Dalton woman arrested after following too closely and causing crash

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On June 20th, 2023, Officer Fraire was dispatched to Chattanooga Ave and the North Dalton Bypass in reference to a vehicle crash. While investigating the crash, the officer suspected Susan Lynne Brackett, 38, of Dalton, to be under the influence of alcohol. Officer Fraire reported, “While [I] spoke with Susan, [I] could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. While attempting to gather Susan’s information, she seemed to be unable to keep her balance, using her vehicle to gain balance. After [I] advised Susan of my observations, she advised she had not consumed any alcoholic beverage. [I] asked Susan if she was willing to conduct field sobriety, to which she advised she would.” Officer Warren arrived shortly after to assist. During field sobriety testing, Susan showed several signs of impairment and showed positive for alcohol on PBT. Susan was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Susan was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BAC of .293 on the state test. Susan was charged with DUI and following too closely.
