According to a Rossville Police Department incident report, On Thursday, December 1st, 2022, at 11:38 AM, Rossville Officers were dispatched to the lot of the Marathon located at 610 Chickamauga Avenue. According to the report, “A passerby reported that a male subject (later identified as Andrew Thomas King, 34, of Dalton) was possibly overdosing inside a silver Kia sedan. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the vehicle had left the lot of the Marathon, rolled across all four lanes of Chickamauga Avenue, and collided with a concrete wall. Another male subject was with Andrew but fled before officers arrived. Andrew reported that he was uninjured from the crash but did not recall what had happened.” Officer Galyon reported, “While speaking with Andrew, [I] observed that his skin was clammy (approximately 40 degrees outside), he was unsteady on his feet, his lips had a purple hue, his speech was slurred, and his pupils were pinpoint His movements were slow and exaggerated, and his mouth was dry and foamy Andrew consented to a standardized field sobriety test.” During SFST, Andrew showed several signs of drug impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI drugs less safe. Andrew read the implied consent notice for subjects over 21 from the DDS-354 card and asked for a blood sample. Officer Galyon reported, “He agreed at this point. Andrew explained that he had Fentanyl concealed in his underwear and asked me if [I] would dispose of it. Andrew retrieved a balled-up paper towel from his groin area and handed it to me. Inside, there were nine large pieces of rolled up aluminum foil, [I] unrolled one of the pieces and discovered it contained a powdery substance.” Andrew was then transported to the Walker County Jail, charged with DUI drugs less safe, possession of Fentanyl, and failure to maintain a single lane.
