Dalton man arrested for DUI after causing crash in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On January 20th, 2023, at 10:46 PM, Deputy Figg responded to W. Ezzard just off South Dixie in reference to a motor vehicle collision. The victim stated he was west on W. Ezzard from off S. Dixie. The victim stated he observed a vehicle coming toward him. As the 2001 Honda Civic was passing him, the vehicle, driven by Manuel Hernandez, 56, of Dalton, struck his vehicle and then continued on W. Ezzard, coming to a rest at S. Dixie. According to the report, “As Deputy Figg approached Manuel, he could smell a strong odor of some type of an intoxicating beverage coming to the person of Manuel. As Deputy Figg was speaking with Manuel, he observed Manuel’s eyes were bloodshot. Manuel had trouble with his balance. During field sobriety tests, Manuel showed several signs of impairment. Manuel was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Manuel was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of .184. Manuel was charged with a single-lane violation and DUI.
