Dalton man arrested for DUI after being stopped for driving with no insurance

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On January 22nd, 2023, at 1:50 PM, Officer McBrayer was patrolling the area of Thornton Avenue and Cedar Street when he observed a vehicle that he knew did not have valid insurance. Officer McBrayer then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Anthony Craig Busby, 35, of Dalton. Officer McBrayer advised Anthony of the reason for the stop and asked which wrecker he wanted to tow the vehicle. Officer McBrayer reported, “While waiting for the wrecker, Anthony was continuing to move about in the vehicle with his wife, Amanda Busby. [I] was not certain what they were doing, so [I] called for an additional unit to respond. When Officer Cook arrived, he observed the same movement. [I] then called for an additional unit so that we could keep clear eyes on everyone. While [I] was coordinating with Officer cook, Anthony began exiting the vehicle without being asked to do so.” Anthony was detained, and officers located two bottles of alcohol in the vehicle. Officers then observed the strong smell and the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from Anthony. During field sobriety testing, Anthony showed several signs of impairment and admitted to consuming alcohol. Anthony was placed under arrest for DUI, and he agreed to the state test. Anthony was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of .289. He was charged with DUI, expired tag, and no insurance.
