Dalton man arrested for DUI after 911 call from concerned citizen regarding drunk driver

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On April 21st, 2023, at 12:22 PM, Officer Miller responded to 875 Shugart Road in reference to someone reporting a male subject getting into his van while drinking from a bottle of Fireball brand liquor. While en route, dispatch advised the subject was leaving the parking lot in a gold 2001 Chrysler Town & Country minivan headed towards Shugart Road. Officer Miller located the vehicle near Home Depot and initiated a traffic stop. Officer Miller reported, “As we pulled into the parking lot, [I] observed Robert running over the curb. [I] approached the driver’s side of the gold minivan and made contact with the driver, identified as Robert M Boutot, 56. [I] identified myself as a Dalton Police Officer and informed Robert of the reason for the stop. That a concerned citizen had called and stated that they had seen a subject match his description getting into a gold minivan while drinking from a bottle of fireball brand liquor. Robert stated that he didn’t have any fireball. While speaking with Robert, [I] smelled the faint aroma of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, as well as [I] observed Robert’s eyes to be glossy. [I] asked Robert if he had had anything to drink this morning, and Robert stated that he had only consumed one beer.” During field sobriety testing, Robert showed several signs of impairment and showed positive on a PBT. Robert was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Officer Miller located a bottle of fireball liquor stuck in the back pocket of the passenger seat and a bottle of fireball. Robert was transported to the Whitfield County Jail and charged with DUI less safe.
