Dalton man arrested after violently assaulting woman during domestic in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On November 25th, 2022, at 11:26 PM, Deputy Woods responded to the area of Washington Street in reference to a domestic disturbance in progress. According to witnesses and the victim, Joseph Tory Grimes, 48, of Dalton, was inside the residence, causing a disturbance. Deputy Woods made contact with Grimes and observed a gash above Grimes’s left eye. Deputy Woods asked Grimes if he needed medical attention, and he stated he did not. Grimes refused to answer questions or advise what had occurred. A witness stated they were all sitting outside near a firepit consuming alcoholic beverages when all of a sudden, Grimes got agitated and went inside. According to the report, “The victim then stated she went to her bedroom and fell asleep. She stated she was then woke up by Mr. Grimes grabbing her by the throat, causing difficulty breathing, and jerking her off the bed. The victim stated Mr. Grimes then called her a “F**king B**ch” and made violent contact using his fist(s) to her face causing visible severe injury. The victim then stated she then started to fight back and possibly caused the gash above Mr. Grimes’s left eye.” All advised deputies that it was not Grimes’s first time causing visible injury to the victim. Grimes was placed under arrest and transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with aggravated assault (FV), battery (FV), simple assault (FV), and obstructing or hindering persons making emergency telephone calls.
