Convicted felon wanted in Alabama found with gun after being stopped for having no tag in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On June 8th, 2023, at 8:36 PM, Officer Bradley and Officer Masciovecchio were on routine patrol on Park Ave. Officers stopped a vehicle after noticing no tag and made contact with the driver Anthony Jerome Martin, 62, of Lindale. Martin informed officers that he had just bought his truck, and the tag that was on the vehicle belonged to the previous owner. The VIN showed the vehicle had no insurance. Martin was also found to have a felony warrant through Alabama and that Martins’s license was expired in 2019. Martin informed Officer Masciovecchio that there was a firearm located in the driver’s door of the vehicle. Officer Masciovecchio retrieved the Phoenix .22 long rifle Pistol. According to the report, “Martin informed Officer Masciovecchio that he keeps the firearm for protection since he carries a lot of cash. He also admitted that he knew he was a convicted felon and could not have the firearm. Martin was arrested and booked into the Floyd County Jail, charged with driving while unlicensed, driving without insurance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and fugitive from justice.
