Whitfield County Assistant District Attorney arrested for public drunkenness in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On Sunday, October 15th, 2023, at 1:08 AM, an officer patrolling near North Hamilton and King Streets noticed a man stumbling as he walked in the roadway, trying to keep himself from falling over. The officer advised Whittle’s speech was extremely slurred, making it difficult to understand what he was saying, and he detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The officer asked Whittle for his driver’s license so he could see his address and give him a ride home. The officer reported, “The male then advised me that [I] was welcome to retrieve the license from his wallet. While trying to do so, [I] found his carry permit, which read the name “Ian Matthew Whittle.” [I] then realized [I] was speaking with Assistant District Attorney Ian Whittle. To confirm, I asked Ian what he did for a profession, to which he laughed and said, “I’m an attorney.” The officer then asked Whittle if he thought it was smart for him to walk around this drunk. Whittle responded with “f**k you.” to the officer, and began insulting him. The officer allowed Whittle to attempt to call his mother to come pick him up. Ian called his mother but did not ask her to come get him; instead, he made odd statements. Whittle tried stepping closer to the officer several times, even though the officer continued to ask him to sit back down. The officer reported, “Ian stepped up to me several times, and then stated “Hit me in the f**king face.” after advising Ian several times to step back from me and him continuing to refuse, [I] finally placed Ian in handcuffs, and advised him he was under arrest for pedestrian under the influence. Whittle was transported and booked into the Whitfield County Jail.
