Wanted man arrested after driving reckless at 68 mph on North Glenwood Avenue in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On May 12th, 2023, at 8:24 AM, Officer Jones was conducting a traffic detail on North Glenwood Avenue just north of the East Park Street intersection. Officer Jones reported, “[I] observed a pack of cars traveling northbound and two vehicles weaving in and out of traffic. [I] saw the first car, best described as a black sedan, leading the two cars and making erratic lane changes. [I] checked the leading vehicle, the black sedan (Lexus GA350), which showed a reading of 68mph in a 35mph zone. The black sedan was in the outside northbound lane. [I] activated my blue lights to slow traffic down behind the black car. [I] pointed toward the driver and directed him to pull over.” The Lexus pulled into the gas station on the corner of North Glenwood Avenue, and Morningside Dr. Officer Jones made contact with the driver, identified as Irving Orlando Castellanos-Beltran, 19, of Dalton. The officer could also smell the odor of burned marijuana coming from within the vehicle. Castellanos stated that he had lost his wallet, which also contained cash. Castellanos wrote down his information and address for the officer. Castellanos stated that he had a driver’s license from South Carolina and had a picture of it. Castellanos showed through GCIC a failure to appear for license suspension. Castellanos was also found to have active felony warrants. Castellanos was informed about his warrants through Murray County and through Dalton PD and that his license was suspended through Georgia. During a search of the vehicle officer located a marijuana shake in the center console along with a large amount of marijuana in a box in the back seat. Castellanos was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with speeding, reckless driving, improper lane change/usage, felony possession of marijuana, driving while registration suspended, driving while license suspended, and the two warrants.
