Unlicensed DUI driver arrested after rolling truck on I-75 ramp in Gordon County

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023, at 12:23 AM, Sergeant Holley responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-75 northbound at mile marker 317 on the exit ramp. Sergeant Holley arrived on the scene and observed a 2001 Toyota Tacoma rolled over. The driver, later identified as Jonathan Vergara Rodriguez, 34, of Dalton, refused any medical treatment and stated he was fine. According to the report, “Mr. Rodriguez then asked Sergeant Holley if he would help him roll the truck back over so he could drive it home, to which Sergeant Holley declined. While Sergeant Holley was speaking with Mr. Rodriguez, he could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Sergeant Holley asked Mr. Rodriguez if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages today, and he stated he always drinks while he is at work. Mr. Rodriguez stated he does construction in Atlanta, GA, and just got off. Sergeant Holley asked Mr. Rodriguez for his license, and he stated he did not have one. Sergeant Holley asked Mr. Rodriguez for his name and date of birth, and Mr. Rodriguez stated that since there was no victim and he was just “traveling,” he did not have to provide that information.” During Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Rodriguez showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. After Rodriguez was placed in handcuffs, he was read implied consent. While Sergeant Holley was reading the implied consent notice, Rodriguez continually talked over him. Rodriguez refused to provide a yes or no answer. Sergeant Holley located a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. Several beer cans were located around the vehicle on the side of the roadway. Inside the glove box of the vehicle, several citations were located with the name of Jonathan Vergara Rodriguez. The information returned that Rodriguez was unlicensed out of Texas. Rodriguez was booked into the Gordon County Jail, charged with DUI driving under the influence of multiple substances less safe, driving with no license, and failure to maintain lane.
