According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On June 25th, 2023, at 3:49 AM, Officer Friare was driving west on North Dalton Byp, when he observed a red Tahoe SUV weaving in and out of the road and initiated a traffic stop. Officer Friare made contact with the driver, later to be identified as Carlos Miguel Camacho-Lamus, 29, of Dalton. Officer Friare reported, “Carlos had his head facing the passenger side window and was unaware of the fact that [I] was at the window. [I] then knocked on the window, to which Carlos responded by turning his head toward me, and [I] observed a Chile powder-like substance commonly known as Tajin on the corner of his lips. He was observed to have a blank expression with his eyes bloodshot red, appearing to be almost closed. Carlos looked at me with a blank stare as [I] signaled for him to roll the window down. It took Carlos a couple of seconds to begin rolling down the window. As Carlos rolled down the driver’s side window, [I] observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person and vehicle.” When asked for his license, Carlos handed the officer a Honduran passport. Carlos advised he had just entered the city from Miami despite driving the opposite way on I-75. The officer also observed a wristband commonly used at bars or clubs so they can ID who is over 21 for alcohol. Carlos showed several signs of impairment. During field sobriety testing, Carlos became extremely argumentative and asked if he was required to perform field sobriety. Carlos refused the testing and was placed under arrest for DUI. Carlos also refused the state test and was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI, weaving, driving while unlicensed, and an open container.
