Rome woman arrested on animal and child cruelty charges after deplorable conditions found

On August 10th, 2023, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office arrested Misty Dawn Lopez Malpica, 43, of 515 Hardy Ave SW Rome, GA, on felony warrants charging her with aggravated cruelty to animals and 1st-degree cruelty to children. According to Floyd County arrest warrants, Lopez Malpica abandoned three dogs in a home on East 12th Street leaving them without adequate food and water after being evicted. The dogs were found in extremely malnourished condition. The dogs showed a BCS level of 2 out of 9 on the Body Condition Scoring chart. A fourth dog was found abandoned tied up on the porch, resulting in a misdemeanor warrant for cruelty to animals. The warrant stated Lopez Malica also letting a child to live in the home which was in horrible condition covered in trash, dog urine, dog feces, and infested with fleas and cockroaches.
