Rome teen arrested after driving reckless at 77 mph on Old Dalton Road in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on March 20th, 2023, at 9:54 AM, Officer Jackson was parked in a stationary position in the 2000 block of Old Dalton Road, observing traffic and operating stationary Radar. Officer Jackson observed a vehicle traveling north on Old Dalton Road at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. Officer Jackson clocked the vehicle at 77 mph in a 35 mph speed zone on Old Dalton Road. Officer Jackson was able to get the vehicle stopped on Old Dalton Road just north of Jones Mill Road. Officer Jackson made contact with the driver, Dustin Cole Chittom, 18, of Rome, and explained why he was being stopped. Chittom advised that he was just trying to get back home was the reason for his excessive reckless speeding. Chittom was then placed under arrest for the traffic violation of super speeder (Safe Speed Law) and reckless driving.
