Ringgold man fires shot over loud music from passing vehicle in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On February 20th, 2023, at 12:19 PM, Deputy Witt, Deputy Craig, and Deputy Pangle responded to the intersection of Vaughn Drive and Houston Valley Road in reference to an individual shooting a firearm at a vehicle. The victim stated he observed Christopher Lee Motley, 50, of Ringgold, with a pistol and his arms extended, with the pistol drawn out towards Vaughn Dr., The victim stated that Chris fired the pistol. The victim stated that he had had issues with Chris in the past. A second victim stated that he observed the same thing. Both men stated they were placed in fear for their lives and left the area. Deputies relocated to 463 Vaughn Dr and made contact with Chris. Chris initially stated that he was standing in his driveway holding his Taurus G2C 9mm when they drove by playing loud music. Chris stated that after they drove by, he walked over behind his house and fired one round into an embankment to scare them. Deputy Pangle located a fresh 9mm shell casing in the muddy driveway. The shell casing matched the ammunition that was in Chris’s firearm. The shell casing had no rust, patina, or mud on it. After the shell casing was located, Chris then stated that he had fired the pistol from his driveway. Chris was placed under arrest and transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct.
