Woman facing DUI, vehicular homicide charge in connection with March crash in Chattooga County

According to the Georgia State Patrol a woman has now been charged in connection to a crash that occurred in March killing a Summerville woman. According to the Georgia State Patrol crash is still under investigation by the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team. At the time of the crash Georgia State Patrol released the following preliminary information: “On Sunday, March 15, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Vehicle 1, a 2014 Dodge Avenger, being driven by Caitlin Elizabeth Milam, 20 was traveling south on GA 1. Vehicle 2, a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, was traveling north on GA 1 in the left lane.  The 2014 Dodge Avenger crossed the center turn lane and entered the left, northbound lane. The 2014 Dodge Avenger struck Ford Explorer in the left front with its left front. The Ford Explorer then overturned while continuing north on GA 1 before coming to final rest on its top. The driver of the Ford Explorer, Haley Smith, age 22 of Summerville, was unrestrained and suffered fatal injuries. At the time of the crash Milam was transported to Floyd Medical Center with serious injuries.” After toxicology reports returned GSP SCRT secured warrants for Milam. She was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on Friday on charges of homicide by vehicle (1st degree), driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane, speeding in excess of maximum limits (speeding 63/45), driving on the wrong side of roadway.
