Whitfield County deputies respond to several shoplifting calls at Walmart Thursday
According to several Whitfield County Sheriff's Office incident reports on Thursday, January 2, 2020, Deputies were dispatched to 2545 East Walnut Avenue in reference shoplifting several times. Around 11:22 AM, a deputy responded in reference to a subject on scene with an active warrant for shoplifting. A deputy made contact with the subject identified Marvin Hill, 61 of Dalton, as he was leaving the customer service desk. Deputy Townsend and Loss Prevention escorted him to the office due to suspicion of a fraudulent return. Hill was arrested on the warrant for shoplifting. A deputy responded around 12:34 PM in reference to a shoplifter that was in custody. Deputy Fernandez met with the offender identified as Eric Vega, 33, of Dalton in the loss prevention office. The Associate stated that they had Vega on video skip-scanning items totaling $15.01. Vega completed his transaction and exited the grocery department without paying for the select items before being approached by loss prevention associates. Vega was transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged theft by shoplifting. Around 2:24 PM, a deputy was dispatched in reference to another shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, the deputy met with Loss Prevention, who stated that they had a female identified as Carolyn Elizabeth Shell, 55, of Dalton on video concealing Merchandise in her pants and attempting to leave the store. They stated that they also witnessed on video that when she was checking out her other items, she failed to pay for several items. The items that were concealed and attempted to be stolen were A shirt, a Kids Sweater, a Pants Set Shirt, a Harry Potter item, a "squishy", and three ornaments. The total value of the items that were concealed or skip scanned was approximately $66.18. Shell was transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged with theft by shoplifting. Around 3:50 PM, a deputy was dispatched to 2545 E Walnut Avenue (Walmart) for a shoplifting in progress. The Loss Prevention Officer's escorted the deputy to the shoplifter, Edward Cooper, 29, of Dalton. The deputy immediately smelled alcohol on Cooper's breathe. Loss Prevention Officer advised the deputy that Cooper was seen taking two wristwatches and placing them in his pockets. Cooper then began to exit the store without attempting to purchase the items. The deputy transported Cooper to the Whitfield County Jail, where he blew a 0.226. Around 5:04 PM, a deputy was dispatched in reference to another shoplifter in custody. The deputy met with Loss Prevention, who stated that William Henry Jr, 50, of Dalton had skip scanned a headlight bulb while attempting to ring up a pair of pants and placed the item in a bag without scanning or paying for it. Loss Prevention stated that he then attempted to exit the store before being stopped and escorted to the Office. The deputy witnessed on video Henry fails to scan the headlight ($22.88 value) and place the item inside the bag attempting to exit the store. Henry and transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged theft by shoplifting.
