Wanted Tennessee man arrested after shoplifting over $600 in clothes from Kohl's in Dalton
According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on February 19th, 2020, an officer responded to 835 Shugart Road (Kohl's) for a shoplifting in progress. The officer arrived on scene and made contact with the suspect Harold Eugene Hughes, 45, of Athens, Tennessee, and escorted him back to Kohl's. The loss prevention officer stated Hughes came in the store with a bag of clothes. He said the suspect would grab pairs of pants, take them into the changing area and place them into a kohl's bag that he had brought into the store. An officer asked Hughes why he thought they escorted him to the loss prevention office and he stated because he did something stupid. The officer asked him what he meant by that, and he stated he shoplifted. LP got a total of the items and prices of the stolen clothes. Hughes had stolen 11 pairs of pants. Seven of the pants were worth $55.00. Four of the pants were worth $70.00. The total stolen accumulated was $665.00. Hughes was arrested for shoplifting (felony). Through GCIC, officers were informed Hughes had a warrant from Douglas County. Hughes was transported to Whitfield County Jail. At the jail, Hughes was informed when he is released from Whitfield County that there will be a hold on him from Douglas County. Due to the total amount that was stolen. ($665.00) Hughes was charged with shoplifting (felony).
