Walker County man facing several charges after biting and punching deputies following chase Monday
Monday morning around 6:30 walker County Sheriff Deputy Chris Wooten spotted a vehicle given out in reckless driving BOLO from Walker E911 the deputy observed the vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane of travel on Highway 27 near the Chattooga County line. The vehicle already driving reckless and a risk to the public failed to stop leading the deputy on a dangerous chase into Chattooga County. Chattooga County Deputies along with a Trion Police officer responded to the area to assist with getting the dangerous driver off the roadway. The vehicle nearly struck several vehicles as it traveled the wrong way down Highway 27. The suspect identified as Lawrence Lavender, 68, of Walker County struck several patrol vehicles in the process. The chase continued into Trion on Highway 27 where the Walker County deputy bumped Lavender's vehicle off the roadway ending the chase near Harrell Street. Lavender then bit a Walker County deputy and punched Chattooga County deputy Derek Mitchell in the face while resisting arrest. Lavender was transported to Floyd Medical Center and is facing several felony charges.
