Two injured in crash Wednesday morning on I-75 in Whitfield County, Decatur man airlifted

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Wednesday, June 17th, 2020, at around 8:00 AM, a 2015 International Prostar being driven by Matthew Bass, 55 of Decatur was traveling north on I-75 near 324 in the center travel lane. A 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer being driven by Chad Jones, 27 of Riverdale was traveling north on I-75 in he outside travel lane. Bass had a medical event causing the International Prostar to veer into the outside travel lane until the passenger's side of the International Prostar made contact with the driver's side of the Freightliner. The area of impact was on I-75N in the outside travel lane. After impact, the International Prostar continued onto the east shoulder until striking the guardrail. The international Prostar made contact with approximately 500 feet of guardrail coming to an uncontrolled final rest facing north on the east shoulder wi h the driver's side tires of the tractor off of the ground. After impact, the Freightliner veered onto the grass, east shoulder traveling north into a tree line striking several trees. The Freightliner came to an uncontrolled final rest facing north on the east shoulder in a tree line. The witnesses both stated that the International Prostar was traveling north in the center travel lane, and the Freightliner was traveling north in the outside travel lane. Both witnesses stated that the International Prostar failed to maintain its lane until hitting the Freightliner. Bass was seriously injured and was transported by Life Force from the scene to Erlanger in Chattanooga. Jones was injured as well and was transported by EMS to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.
