Two arrested after stolen vehicle pursuit ends with successful PIT in Walker County Thursday
According to a Walker County Sheriff's Office report, on Thursday, August 20th, 2020, at around 4:45 PM, Deputy Brewer was assisting the City of LaFayette Police Department Sgt. Dustin Coker with a shoplifting call at Walmart. They were following the female suspect identified as Amanda Cox, 35 of Hixson, TN, out of the store and to the parking lot to ensure she had left the scene as she had now been criminally trespassed from the store. They observed her get into a 2011 Nissan Altima. Sgt Coker asked Deputy Brewer to run the tag on the vehicle for his incident report since he was already in his patrol unit. Deputy Brewer pulled behind the vehicle and ran the tag. The deputy ran the tag on his computer, and it took approximately 10-15 seconds for it to return through GCIC. The returned showed it was stolen out of Sweetwater Tennessee taken on July 6th, 2020. the Altima had been stolen from the OYO Hotel. The vehicle then pulled out toward the Murphy gas station. The deputy activated his blue lights and siren, and the vehicle continued onto Pearl Drive and entered the opposite lane of travel and drove through the red stoplight at the intersection of Highway 27 and turned northbound. The vehicle began to accelerate and began passing cars in the center turning lane and traveling into the southbound lane several times near West Warren Road. The deputy followed the vehicle until Sgt. Coker was able to take over the pursuit. Walker County Sheriffs Department had requested GSP when the pursuit started. GSP Trooper Thomas was on Highway 27 north of Chickamauga and responded towards their location. Trooper Thomas was listening to Walker County as they advised speeds of 130 mph. Trooper Thomas observed the stolen Nissan in the area of Farming Rock Road and turned around to attempt to catch up. Trooper Thomas caught up to the vehicle in the area of Park Street as it began traveling northbound in the southbound lanes in a blind curve. The vehicle attempted to hit several vehicles head-on and made the southbound vehicles swerve off the west side of the roadway. Chickamauga Police Department officer had the intersection at Lee Gordon Mill Road blocked for cross traffic. The violator reduced speed and continued to travel in the southbound lane and turning lane. Trooper Thomas reported, "Since the vehicle had reduced speed and there was what [I] believed to be room, [I] conducted a PIT on the vehicle to keep it from approaching the next intersection which is very busy at that time." "The driver's actions made it a rapidly evolving situation with no regard for safety for him or others on the roadway." The male suspect identified as Dustin Anglea, 32 of Chickamauga, had run from the vehicle and was taken into custody by Sgt. Coker. Deputy Brewer saw Amanda running southbound and across the parking lot of the Sonic restaurant. He turned around and pulled into the back parking lot of Guadalajara Mexican restaurant. Amanda was hiding behind the cooler near the back door and backside of the restaurant. The deputy ordered Amanda from behind the cooler and took her into custody. Deputy Kirby transported Amanda to the jail. Both Amanda was charged with felony theft by receiving a stolen vehicle, shoplifting, obstruction, and giving false name and DOB. Dustin was charged with felony theft by receiving a stolen vehicle, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, obstruction, and a slew traffic violations which were issued by GSP.
