Tennessee man struck and killed while attempting to cross I-24 in Dade County
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020, at around 12:50 AM, a 1999 Ford F-350 being driven by Hope Vance, 44 of McDowell, West Virginia, was traveling west on Interstate 24 in the left lane just before the on-ramp to Interstate 59. A pedestrian identified as Joseph Tidwell, 58 of Alcoa, Tennessee, was walking south, attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 24. The F-350 struck the pedestrian with its front. The area of impact was in the F-350's lane of travel. After impact, Tidwell came to a final rest in the center lane of Interstate 24, and the F-350 came to a controlled rest on the right shoulder of Interstate 59. Kenneth Vance, 57 of McDowell, West Virginia, who was a passenger in F-350, exited the vehicle and pulled the Tidwell from the center lane of the Interstate onto the south shoulder of the Interstate to prevent further incidents. Tidwell was pronounced deceased at the scene.
