Teenager cited after causing three-vehicle crash on Airport Road last week in Whitfield County
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report on Thursday June, 20th a 2010 Toyota FJ being driven by Jacob Chadwick 19, of a Dalton address was traveling eastbound on Airport Road. A 2005 Ford Ranger being driven by Justin Felts, 39 of a Dalton address was traveling westbound on Airport Road. A 2017 Chevrolet Trax being driven by Sheila Smith, 54 of a Dalton address was stopped in the eastbound lane to turn left onto Brock Road. Chadwick did not see the Chevrolet Trax stopped and swerved to the left into the westbound lane. As the Toyota FJ crossed the center line, the Toyota FJ struck the Ranger's left front with its left front. After impact, the Toyota FJ rotated counter clockwise. While rotating, the rear of the Toyota FJ struck the left side door of Chevrolet Trax. The Toyota FJ came to a final rest in the westbound lane facing northwest. The Ranger, after impact, separated from the Toyota FJ and came to a final rest in the westbound lane facing west. The area of first impact was in the westbound lane. Second area of impact was in the eastbound lane. Chadwick told the investigating trooper while driving he had looked to the right, taking his eyes off the roadway for just a second. When he looked backed, the Chevrolet Trax was stopped and that's when he swerved to the left and there was the Ranger. Chadwick was injured in the crash and transported by EMS to Hamilton Medical center in Dalton. Felts was seriously injured in the crash and transported by LifeForce helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Chadwick was cited by GSP for failure to maintain single lane and seatbelt.
