Suspected DUI driver arrested following high-speed chase after hitting, injuring Ringgold officer

Ringgold, GA — Shortly after 4:30 AM Sunday, March 1st, 2020, officers from the Ringgold Police Department were on Interstate 75 southbound, assisting the Sheriff's Office with an investigation. During the course of assisting, A Ringgold Police officer was struck by a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser being driven by a suspected intoxicated driver. The driver identified by GSP as Justis Dempsey, 21, of Tunnel Hill continued off the Interstate going southbound on Highway 151. A high-speed pursuit ensued down Highway. Another Ringgold Officer who was out with an intoxicated driver on the parking lot of Krystal's joined the pursuit with the Catoosa County deputy. The pursuit went down Highway 151 and turned off onto Mt. Pisgah Road. According to the Georgia State Patrol the 2003 Chrysler PT was traveling west on Peavine Road at a high rate of speed. The Chrysler exited the roadway to the right. The Chrysler re-entered the roadway crossing the centerline. The Chrysler exited the roadway to the left. The Chrysler re-entered the roadway crossing the centerline. The Chrysler exited the roadway to the right and re-entered the roadway crossing the centerline. The Chrysler exited the roadway to the left, striking a ditch with the front of Chrysler vaulting west into a pasture, striking a barbwire fence with the front. The Chrysler came to an uncontrolled rest to the left of the roadway, facing north, on the roof. The officer that was struck was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital. The Intoxicated driver at Krystal's was also arrested and transported to the Catoosa County Jail. Several warrants including felony fleeing have issued by the Ringgold Police Department. According to the Georgia State Patrol GSP Crash report #C000680938 is not complete.
