Summerville man charged with DUI following Memorial Day morning crash in Chattooga County
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash reports on Monday, May, 27th shortly after 6:00 A.M. Cody Collins, 27 of Butler Dairy Road address was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Dixie Concrete was traveling north on Saddle Club Road. Collins failed to maintain his lane of travel as he ran off the roadway on the west side of Saddle Club Road. Collins told the investigating trooper that he leaned over to get a can of snuff (distracted) and ran off the roadway. Silverado impacted a mailbox on the west side of the road (243 Saddle Club Road). After the initial impact with the mailbox, Silverado traveled 120 feet, crossing back over Saddle Club Road. The Silverado left the roadway on the east side of the roadway where the front end impacted a utility pole owned by NGEMC. After the impact with the pole, the Silverado continued northbound 75 feet, across a private drive, where the front end impacted a small tree. Trooper stated while speaking with the driver, his eyes were noticeably bloodshot and a slurring of the words could be heard. When the trooper asked how long it had been since he consumed any alcoholic beverage, Collins stated around 1 am-2 am. A preliminary breath test was asked for by the trooper an agreed to with the results indicating positive (.096) for alcohol. Collins told the trooper that he had consumed approximately 8 beers. He was then read Implied Consent Notice/ Suspects Age 21 or Over asking for a blood test in which he agreed. Collins was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked, DUI- driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicating substances and driving on roadways laned for traffic.
