Student brings loaded handgun to Northwest Whitfield High School
According to the Whitfield County Sheriff, two Northwest Whitfield High School students were arrested Friday and turned over to Whitfield County Juvenile Court after a student brought a loaded handgun to school to use as "an intimidation technique toward two other students" following an off-campus drug deal sometime last week. Both students are juveniles so the sheriff's office did not release their names. According to the release the sheriff's office received a call around 9:00 A.M. about a weapon being found on the school campus. Sheriff Investigators determined that a student gave another student a 40-caliber Glock handgun last week. The student gave the other student the gun with knowledge it would be used to intimidate the two students. The release said the gun was never taken out of the student's backpack nor was it used to threaten any school student or staff.
