Stabbing suspect airlifted following stabbing at the Mapco in Tunnel Hill Friday evening

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff's Office incident report, on Friday, May 29th, 2020, a Whitfield deputy was dispatched to the Mapco at 720 North Varnell Road in reference to a male cutting another male's throat. Upon arrival, the deputy observed Tunnel Hill officer was on scene along with Whitfield County Fire and Hamilton EMS. The deputy searched the area for the suspect vehicle that had fled but was unable to locate the vehicle. The deputy returned to the scene where both he and a Lt. cleared the Mapco. The deputy began a crime scene log. Deputy spoke with a witness who stated he was in line with his wife, waiting to pay for his drinks. While in line, he heard a male behind him yell, "What are you doing?!" The witness stated he looked around and saw an older white male lying on the floor with a younger male standing over him with his right hand drawn back. The witness stated the younger male then ran out of the door. The witness stated he ran after the man in an attempt to hold him for law enforcement. The witness stated the man got into the Chevy Malibu and yelled, "GO GO!" The witness stated the female later identified as Carrie Lynn Denton, 35, of Fort Oglethorpe backed up in the parking lot, struck another male in the parking lot along with the males truck and left out of the parking lot turning left at a high rate of speed. The deputy turned his crime scene log over to the Tunnel Hill officer on scene upon his relief. The 76-year-old victim of Ringgold was transported to an area hospital. The suspect drove to Keith Road in Catoosa County where he stabbed himself. He was seriously injured and was airlifted by Life Force to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
