Semi driver struck and killed on the side of I-75 in Whitfield County Wednesday

According to the Georgia State Patrol: “On September 23, at approximately 7:24 pm, Post 5 Dalton received a call of a serious injury crash on I-75 northbound near mile marker 327. Troopers arrived on the scene and called for assistance from Troop A Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT). The preliminary investigation indicated a 2006 Nissan Altima was traveling north on I-75 in the left travel lane. A 2004 Ford Mustang was traveling northbound on I-75 in the middle lane. A 2002 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was parked on the east paved shoulder of I-75 northbound. The driver of the tractor-trailer was outside of the truck standing at the rear of the trailer. As the Ford Mustang approached the tractor-trailer, the Nissan Altima changed lanes and struck the Ford Mustang in the left front. The impact caused the driver of the Ford Mustang to lose control and leave the roadway on the east shoulder. After the initial impact, the Nissan Altima continued northbound entering the right lane from the middle lane. The Nissan Altima continued onto the east paved shoulder rotating counter clock-wise striking the truck driver and the rear of the trailer. After impact with the trailer, the Nissan Altima rotated clock-wise coming to final rest in the right northbound travel lane of I-75 north facing south. The truck driver was taken to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton and was pronounced deceased on arrival. Troop A SCRT team is conducting the follow up investigation. The name of the victim will be released as soon as family notification is made.”
