Rocky Face man facing several charges after shooting inside Tunnel Hill restaurant Saturday night

No injuries reported after a man fired shots Saturday night inside Los Maguey Mexican Restaurant in Tunnel Hill. According to a Incident report from the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the restaurant located on Cottonwood Mill Road near Highway 41 shortly after 9:30P.M.. A sheriff deputy arrived on the scene at Los Maguey to find a very large crowd behind the building The deputy waited for more units before entering the building. Once backup arrived they entered the restaurant where they found the suspect, identified as Douglas Dennard 71, hiding in a booth. Deputies took Dennard into custody without further incident. They took a Smith & Wesson M&P 40-caliber from his possession. Dennard was said to be very intoxicated to the point he could barely walk. Dennard said the reason he fired shots was because someone had stolen his wallet and he was in fear for his life. Douglas Walter Dennard, 71 was booked into the Whitfield County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, Gun, reckless conduct, discharge firearm under influence of alcohol x5, and discharging firearm on property of another x3. Dennard is being held without bond and scheduled for court Monday.
