Resaca man killed after being pinned between trucks Friday morning at the Pilot on Connector 3

A Resaca man was killed Friday morning after being pinned between a truck and a tractor-trailer that was being towed in the Pilot at the Connector 3 exit of I-75. According to a Whitfield County 911 CAD they received the call at 11:26 AM. Friday. Whitfield County Sheriff's Office, Whitfield County Fire Department, Georgia State Patrol, and Hamilton EMS responded to 243 Connector 3 in south Whitfield County. 1st unit arrived within 5 minutes of the original 911 call. Johnny Steve Peeler, 50, who was an employee at Phillips Towing and Recovery in Calhoun, according to reports from the Georgia State Patrol. Witnesses said Peeler and another worker in a tow rig were pulling a disabled tractor-trailer into the parking lot of the Pilot Travel Center. During the process of towing the tractor-trailer, Mr. Peeler appear to realize that the trailer being towed would hit his service truck. The Witnesses said he ran to the pickup truck to move it and in the process of trying to get in was struck by the tractor-trailer being towed. According to Peeler’s obituary posted by Ponders, he is survived by his wife Melissa Dalton Peeler and children Heather Bennett, Joshua Peeler and Josheph Peeler, all of Resaca. Memorial services will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ponders Calhoun Chapel. The Peeler family will receive friends on Saturday from noon until the service hour.
