One person killed, another airlifted in Sunday afternoon crash in Floyd County

A Sunday afternoon crash in Silver Creek killed one person and five others were injured. The two vehicle crash happened at 12:25 P.M. Sunday. on Highway 101 at the Silver Creek Mini-Mart. According to The Floyd County Police Department, a 2004 Ford Taurus, driven by 35-year old Charles Slaton of Rome, was traveling southbound behind a Honda Odyssey. The Odyssey was attempting to turn left into the mini-mart, and the Taurus tried to pass on the left, traveling into the path of a Ford F-250, which was northbound. Both vehicles swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision. The Taurus was struck on the passenger side and the truck flipped. A passenger in the Taurus, 32-year old Brandy Slaton of Rome was killed. An 11-year old in the Taurus was airlifted to the hospital. Charles Slaton and a 9-year old in the Taurus were taken by ambulance to the hospital. 58-year old David Gilmer and 55-year old Debra Gilmer of Aragon, who were in the F-250, were also transported by ambulance to the hospital.
