One airlifted, several others injured in ATV crash in Gordon County Saturday night
According to the Georgia State Patrol: "On Saturday, June 13, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Vehicle #1 (2004 Yamaha Moto 4 ATV) was eastbound on Horizon Hills Road, east of Old Fairmount Highway when the engine stalled. After the engine stalled, vehicle #1 began rolling backwards traveling westbound in the eastbound lane. The driver of vehicle #1 stated that the brakes failed to work, and the vehicle would not stop. Vehicle #2 (2018 Honda Rancher ATV) was westbound on Horizon Hills Road in the westbound lane east of Old Fairmount Highway. According to the passenger of vehicle #2, the driver was attempting to use his vehicle to stop vehicle #1 and struck the left side with its left front corner. After impact, vehicle #1 rolled over on its top and came to a final, uncontrolled rest facing west in the eastbound lane of Horizon Hills Road. Vehicle #2 overturned onto its right side and came to a final, uncontrolled rest on the north shoulder of Horizon Hills Road facing westbound. The area of impact was in front of 131 Horizon Hills Road, east of Old Fairmount Highway. Driver #1 – Trisha Martinez, age 32 of Calhoun, was not injured. Passenger #1 – 9-year-old of Calhoun, was injured and transported to Floyd Medical Center. Driver #2 – William Turner, age 23 of Fairmount, was injured and airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center. Passenger #2 – Amber Newport, age 26 of Calhoun, was injured and transported to Floyd Medical Center. Passenger #2 – 5-year-old of Calhoun, was injured and transported to Floyd Medical Center."
