Monday morning crash on Highway 27 in Chattooga County leaves two injured, Rome woman cited
On Monday, June 24th around 8:40 A.M. Red 2005 Nissan Pathfinder being driven by Roselia Mendez, 32 of a Rome address was negotiating a left curve on GA-1 south in the right lane of travel. Mendez failed to maintain her lane when the left the right side of the roadway. Mendez overcorrected steering to the left, traveled into the left lane of GA-1 south. Mendez then overcorrected steering to the right and lost control of the Pathfinder. The Pathfinder rotated approximately ninety degrees (90°) and rolled three times. The Pathfinder came to an uncontrolled rest on its passenger side across both lanes of GA-1 south facing the right side of GA-1 south. Mendez told the investigating trooper that she was traveling south on GA-1 and lost control of the Pathfinder. The passenger Raquel Bamaca-lopez, 40 of a Rome address told the investigating trooper that Mendez was sleepy and had fallen asleep when the Pathfinder ran off the right side of the roadway. She stated that when Mendez realized what was going on she jerked the steering wheel and lost control. Both Mendez and her passenger Bamaca-lopez were injured in the crash and transported by Redmond EMS to Redmond Medical Center in Rome. Mendez was issued two citations failure to maintain single lane and driving without valid drivers licenses.
