Massachusetts man arrested after shoplifting socks from Walmart
According to a Whitfield County sheriff's Office incident report, on August 6th, 2020, at approximately 7:36 PM, a deputy was dispatched to Walmart located at 2545 East Walnut Avenue in reference to shoplifting at the business. The deputy made contact with Walmart loss prevention employees and was able to gather the following information. The deputy watched Walmart's store surveillance video, which showed Luis Gomez, 25 of Salem, Massachusetts, put on a pair of socks on his feet that he took out of a package from a shelf. The footage also showed Luis Antonio Gomez-Gonzalez and a female failing to pay for a package of socks, worth approximately $20.00, at a checkout station before attempting to proceed to leave the store. Walmart loss prevention employees were able to stop Gomez, but the female continued outside and left the store. Walmart loss prevention employees escorted Gomez to the loss prevention office in the store. Walmart employees advised they wanted Gomez charged for violating O.C.G.A 16-8-14 theft by shoplifting. Gomez was transported to the Whitfield County Jail and charged with theft by shoplifting.
