Marietta man killed in crash while attempting to elude Polk County Police on stolen motorcycle
According to a preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol, a stolen motorcycle was traveling east on U.S. 278 in Polk County. The rider of stolen motorcycle, has been identified as Jeffrey Dwayne Johnson, 32, of Marietta, was actively attempting to flee from a fully marked Polk County Police vehicle. The Polk County officer lost visual of the motorcycle near the intersection with Ga. 113. Johnson continued fleeing at a high rate of speed on U.S. 278. As Johnson negotiated a slight downhill curve, he lost control of the vehicle. The motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment with its right side. After striking the embankment, it then hit multiple small trees. It continued and struck a larger tree and came to a final stop. Johnson, the rider, sustained fatal injuries because of the crash. Johnson was pronounced at 11:38 p.m. on Saturday on the scene by Polk County Deputy Coroner Frankie Matthews. Georgia State Patrol says the investigation is continuing.
