Man wanted after police chase from Georgia ends in fatal crash Monday night in Chattanooga

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division and the United States Marshals Service Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force announce the arrest today, Nov. 1, 2019, of one of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations 10 Most Wanted fugitives.
The BCSO and Taskforce members developed information that Douglas Cody Gass, age 23, of Chickamauga, Georgia, was currently living at 219 Corto Place, Panama City Beach, Florida. Officers went to the residence and observed Mr. Gass asleep on the couch in the living room area of the residence. When officers knocked, Gass fled to the rear of the home and refused to answer the door. Officers could hear Gass moving around in the residence and, after several minutes, forced the door open. Attempts were made to get Gass to surrender but he refused and officers entered the home and found him hiding under one of the beds in a bedroom. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Douglas Cody Gass was booked into the Bay County jail as a Fugitive from Justice from the State of Tennessee for the offenses of Vehicular Homicide, Reckless Aggravated Assault, Felony Evading, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death and Reckless Endangerment. He will be held pending extradition back to the State of Tennessee.
Wanted Fugitive Douglas Cody Gass, 23, has now been added to the TBI Most Wanted list. He’s wanted by Chattanooga PD for vehicular homicide reckless aggravated assault, felony evading, leaving the scene of an accident involving death, reckless endangerment, and other felony/traffic charges. Manhunt continues Dade County Sheriff's Office says they have reason to believe Cody Gass, the man wanted for multiple charges, including Vehicular Homicide, may be in the Dade County Area. Gass has also been added to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Hamilton County's 12 most wanted. If you see him, or have info on his whereabouts, please call the 911.

A Fort Oglethorpe Police Officer attempted to stop a 2008 Nissan Altima Base for reckless driving on Park Forest Drive. The Altima failed to stop leading officers on a dangerous chase throughout Fort Oglethorpe and into East Ridge Tennessee. The pursuit ended when the Altima slammed into a power pole and flipped near the intersection East 38th Street and 10th Avenue in Chattanooga. The Altima which was occupied by three young men (19-23) burst into flames. Pursuing officers immediately attempted to save and pull two of the entrapped passengers from the burning Altima. The officers learned the driver who has been identified as Douglas Cody Gass, 23 of Chickamauga had fled the crash scene on foot. Due to the crash occurring within the city of Chattanooga and subsequent fatality, the Chattanooga Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to take over the investigation. Gass was found to have active warrants for his arrest and warrants are on file for multiple charges, including Vehicular Homicide, through Chattanooga Police Department and Georgia law enforcement agencies. One of the passengers Kobe Burchfield who was seriously burned and injured succumbed to his injuries.
