Man killed in crash Sunday morning in Calhoun
Robert Mickie Simpson, 57, of Calhoun died in a vehicle crash on Erwin Street in Calhoun, Gordon County Deputy Coroner Bo Nicholson says. The crash happened around 4:30AM Sunday morning. Preliminary report says Simpson was traveling eastbound on Erwin Street in a 2019 Toyota Tacoma when he struck a tree. Statewide, four people had lost their lives as of noon Sunday including fatal accidents in Albany, Valdosta and Manchester. Over the Labor Day holiday in 2018, 18 people lost their lives.Statewide, Georgia state troopers investigated 446 traffic crashes that resulted in 203 injuries and nine fatalities. In addition to the traffic crash investigations, 322 people were arrested for driving under the influence, while 9,008 citations and 12,180 warnings were issued. Local agencies reporting traffic deaths during the holiday period were: Cobb County PD, Clayton County PD, Richmond County SO; and Union City PD.
