Kennesaw woman charged with DUI after trooper checks her BMW going over 110MPH on I-75 in Gordon Co.
On Sunday, May 17, at approximately 2:15 a.m., a trooper was patrolling I-75 southbound in Gordon County near mile marker 317. He observed a car approaching from the rear that moved into the right lane behind him instead of passing him as he travelled at about 65 miles per hour. Both vehicles continued southbound, and the trooper observed the vehicle weaving and failing to maintain its lane. He moved onto the southbound exit ramp 317 as if he were exiting the interstate but pulled onto the right shoulder instead. The vehicle, 2010 BMW 328I, continued southbound. The trooper pulled back onto the interstate and began to catch back up to the vehicle. As it continued southbound, the trooper noticed that it was pulling away from the other vehicles at what appeared to be a very high rate of speed. He checked the speed of the vehicle at 108 miles per hour and reached a top speed of 111 miles per hour in the 70 mile per hour zone near exit ramp 315. The trooper also observed the vehicle weaving and failing to maintain its lane of travel. The trooper conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle by activating his emergency lights and siren. The vehicle continued a distance before pulling to the right shoulder at the southbound entrance ramp 315. The driver was positively identified as Shakiah Lurie Zachery, age 21 of Cobb County. She was charged with, driving under the influence, reckless driving, speeding in excess of maximum limits, possession of open container in vehicle, and failure to maintain lane.
