Investigators investigating fire at Miller Auto Repair shop in Dalton as possible arson

The Dalton Fire Department and Dalton Police Department are still investigating a fire that happened on Monday, March 16th at Miller Auto Repair, located at 222 East Morris Street. The DFD was dispatched to the scene around 8:36 PM after Whitfield County E911 received several calls reporting heavy smoke in the area. Dalton PD arrived seconds after being dispatched and found heavy black smoke along with fire coming from the roof. The structure suffered heavy damage, including a roof collapse, but fortunately, there were no injuries. A Ford Ranger truck that was stolen from the auto repair shop suffered extensive damage from a fire was recovered in Murray County the next day. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze, but arson is considered a possibility. The owner of Miller Auto Repair Johnny Miller said it was arson robbery. Miller, who has owned the business for over a decade, said, "They broke into the back office, busted the safe open, stole cash out. The Dalton Fire Department had the fire under control at around 9:30 PM.
