Hixson man charged with DUI after leaving barbecue while drunk to go get burgers Saturday night
According to a Whitfield County Sheriff's Office incident report, on Saturday, August 29th, 2020, at around 10:44 PM a deputy who was actively patrolling the area of Sonya Drive observed a dark in color Chevrolet Impala displaying Tennessee license plate traveling in excess of 50 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. The deputy also observed the vehicle failing to maintain lane and signaling to make turns without turning three times. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver Scott Hixson, 40 of Hixson, TN. The deputy noticed Hixson's speech was slurred and could smell the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from Hixson. Hixson told the deputy he had a 24 oz Natural Ice beer and some kind of hard seltzer about an hour before driving. He told the deputy he was going to Food Lion to pick up burgers for the barbecue he had just left. Hixson was traveling in the opposite direction of Food Lion. The deputy had Hixson perform SFST. Hixson showed several clues of impairment during the test. The deputy placed Hixson under arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Hixson was read Georgia's Implied Consent for subjects over the age of 21 and agreed. Hixson was transported to Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a breath sample of BAC of 0.100, and the second breath sample provided showed a BAC of 0.096. Hixson was cited for DUI-driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to maintain lane, and a written warning for speeding.
