GSP trooper recovers stolen vehicle Tuesday evening in Dalton, Atlanta man arrested
According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020, at approximately 7:40 PM, TFC Day spotted a stolen 2016 Ford Fusion with Kentucky tag "734ZVA" traveling on I- 75 South in Whitfield County. TFC Day spotted the vehicle in the area of mile marker 340. TFC Day confirmed the tag, and GCIC showed that the vehicle was reported stolen through the Atlanta Police Department. The driver later identified a Nevale D. Sanders, 28 of Atlanta, exited onto GA 52 before turning right onto College Drive. At this time, TFC Day activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. Sanders stopped the stolen vehicle in the entrance to the Chili's Restaurant at 881 Holiday Inn Drive. TFC Day removed his issued Glock Model 45 from its holster and held it at a low ready. TFC Day gave verbal commands for Sanders to turn the vehicle off, and to exit. Sanders complied with orders and was detained. Sanders stated that his license was suspended through the state of Kentucky. The passenger stated that she was the registered owner and that the vehicle was illegally repossessed. She stated that she had settled her financial obligation with her lienholder and that the tow service had released the vehicle to her. Sanders stated the same story. TFC Day then contacted the Atlanta Police Department. The Atlanta Police Department advised that the vehicle was stolen from United Auto Recovery after United Auto Recovery had repossessed the vehicle for non-payment. The Atlanta Police Department stated that three subjects had taken the vehicle with a spare key and that the vehicle was not released to anyone. The stolen vehicle report was confirmed through GCIC. GCIC also showed that Sanders' license was suspended through the state of Kentucky. Sanders was arrested, and TFC Terry transported him to the Whitfield County Jail. Sanders was charged with felony theft by receiving a stolen vehicle and driving while license is suspended.
