GSP investigating serious crash that occurred on the Bypass in Dalton Thursday afternoon
According to the Georgia State Patrol: "Today at approximately 1:46p.m., Corporal Curtis (Post 5, Dalton) was dispatched to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of GA3 Bypass and North Thornton Ave. As a result of the crash, two lanes northbound and two southbound remained closed for an extended period. Vehicle #1, a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), was traveling south on GA 3 in the right lane approaching the intersection of N Thornton when the driver of the CMV steered to the left to avoid striking a vehicle in the rear that had stopped for the red light. The CMV crossed into the northbound lane and struck a Dodge Caravan in the left driver’s side that was attempting to turn left from N. Thornton Ave, onto GA 3 Bypass. The Dodge Caravan rotated counter-clockwise and traveled a good distance before coming to a rest on the northbound shoulder. As a result, the driver of the Caravan sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team-A responded to the scene and will be assisting with this on-going investigation and charges, if any, will be pending the outcome."
