GSP ends reckless pursuit in Whitfield County Friday with PIT maneuver, Tunnel Hill man arrested

According to the Georgia State Patrol: "On June 26, at approximately 10:10 p.m., Vehicle #1 (2011 Chevrolet Cruze) was fleeing from Vehicle #2 (a marked Georgia State Patrol vehicle) traveling south on GA 201. Vehicle #2 had all of its emergency lights activated, as well as its siren. The driver of vehicle #1 was driving in a reckless manner. Driver #1 failed to yield and pull over for vehicle #2. The driver of vehicle #2 successfully ended the pursuit by utilizing the PIT maneuver.  Vehicle #1 began to rotate counterclockwise, traveled across GA 201 and off the east side shoulder of the roadway, and struck an embankment with its front before coming to an uncontrolled rest facing north on the east shoulder of GA 201. Driver #1 – Chad Rogers, age 33 of Tunnel Hill, was injured and transported to Hamilton Medical Center.  Rogers was booked into the Whitfield County Jail charged with the following:

  • Driving Under the Influence

  • Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer

  • Use of Safety Belts in Passenger Vehicles

  • Reckless Driving

  • Failure to Maintain Lane

  • Speeding in Excess of Maximum Limits (85 in 45 MPH zone)

  • Too Fast for Conditions

  • Possession and use of Drug Related Products

  • Purchase, Possession, Manufacture, Distribution, or Sale of Controlled Substances or Marijuana

  • Possession of Tools for the Commission of Crime

  • Failure to Stop at Stop Sign

  • Failure to Signal When Turning or Changing Lanes

  • Driving on Wrong Side or Roadway

  • Driving While License Suspended or Revoked

Passengers Roy McTaggart, age 23 of Rocky Face, Ally Roberts, age 23 of Tunnel Hill, Andrew McTaggart, age 25 of Rocky Face, were all not injured. GSP stated the incident report was not complete yet.
